a fandom demographic:

13/14yo: shamelessly enjoying cringey things, hardcore shippers, on the front line of fandom wars

16/17yo: feel the need to distance themselves from their cringey past, quality snobs, passionate fandom police, unironically use the word problematic

18-20yo: Just Plain Lost, blog is a mess, can’t decide whether they like something or not

20-25yo: the annoying grandmas, keep talking about the times when email lists were still a thing, “tbt when this fandom was still positive and supportive”

26+: shamelessly enjoying cringey things pt 2: Chill Edition, love things because of their flaws, dug so deeply into their own corner that they’ve probably taken root there, blissfully ignore the bangs and explosions on the horizon

honestly the reason i like school concepts is bc they’re cute? i don’t see it as sexy at all just innocent and fun and probably very relatable to the fandoms in korea who are mostly teenagers. i mean, bts even advertise for school uniform companies so like. yeah. it’s more like getting to imagine ur idol as someone u could meet in ur school rather than sexualizing or pedophilia?? some older people are probably creepy about it. someone always is. but in general i don’t think that’s the point.

sugasuite:

maybe. that could be target market for it. i mean, i am their noona so maybe that’s why i don’t get it… and you’re right, there’s always someone who could make any idea fetishized.

good points there ☺️

a lot of normal korean culture strikes me that way. the whole business with aeygo always screams infantalisation to me. like they talk and act like little kids. most of the time its women mainly encouraged to do it and its seen as a positive attribute to be good at it and something attractive too, which is what makes me feel like its a bit sexualised. so it may be that difference in culture (not saying its right just saying it might be why knetz dont have a problem with it)

sugasuite:

i mean, i like seeing them do aegyo cause it’s cute and out of character for them. i also like how shy they get after lol but i never delved into thinking much about it to reach that idea.

but yeah, culture plays a big role in what is accepted and usual in kpop of course.
