Alternative Crediting Methods

btsgfx:

Tumblr has started suspending accounts for “deceptive or fraudulent links” to supposed porn content (which may just be referring to porn ads; source). This has been a part of the community guidelines.

We understand this issue is a valid reason for not crediting and is most relevant to gif-makers, but we promote always crediting other content creators, including uploaders of paid content like DVDs.

If the source you want to link to is (1) hosted on a website with a lot of potentially malicious ads (e.g., openload), (2) a download link, or (3) a post that leads to a download elsewhere (e.g., twitter post with download links hosted on mediafire, openload, etc.) please use one of these alternative ways of crediting.

  1. A known way gif-makers have been using for a while for compilation gif sets is to link to a blog page where credit is given for each source using any video source links with no problem.
  2. Or instead of crediting through a link(s) with the above issues in the caption (1) type out OP’s entire username and platform with a credit-context descriptor, then (2) put the link in the post source and/or in the tags.

Some caption examples for method #2:

We’d never advocate for you to not put some form of proper credit in the caption. For more guidelines on what we view as proper credit see the first question under “Proper Crediting Policy” on our Polices page.
