jimin + colourism / anti-black racism
i’m gonna be absolutely 100% straight up and get this out now. if you don’t know what’s going on: links to a post about it here, with more twt links on it – but the run down is that jimin used a word that’s the korean equivalent of nigger, and called jeongguk that in a video in one of the BTS Summer Packages. it’s also a word that’s used to describe darker skinned Korean people, and lighter Korean people who’ve tanned, in a negative manner and to describe black animals.
so. my thoughts.
깜둥이 (kkamdongi) has a negative connotation because of a) it being the korean equivalent to nigger, a word specifically made to dehumanise Black people.
b) it’s a that’s used in Korea to talk about having darker skin as a bad thing. it’s like a white person saying, “omg, you’re so tanned, you look like a nigger!”. whichever way you look at it, it’s a way to express negativity about dark skin.
c) the fact that jimin used that word to describe jeongguk’s skin essentially means he was saying “you look like a black person / you look darker/are tanned” and that having a tan was something negative. he meant it in a negative way and used that word to express it.
he made a colourist comment using a racist, anti-black word with heavily negative connotations. it’s not surprising to me because the amount of colourism in korea and in non-white communities + the major anti-blackness in non-black communities is massive …just sad to see it getting dragged up and having to be made to see all this shit, right now.

thank you for answering gently I still love you tho I can understand your feelings believe me. I didn’t mean to make you feel bad or like idk hated or didn’t want to mess with you. tbh I felt horrible after sending the hypocrite part. I’m sorry for saying that. I mean I don’t want to hurt your feelings(someone I only follow in internet and don’t really know what they go through) over something stupid about a some man I only know from my computer.
unpopular opinion: can hoseok for 10 million followers do “hope on the street” instead, i couldn’t care less for abs, don’t get me wrong abs are nice but i wanna see my man dance, cuz he shines extra bright when dancing and i’m here for anything that makes him happy

Apparently Catch Me If You Can was going to include this con but they had to cancel the scene because when they tried to film it people kept walking up and trying to give Leo their money.
So a professor of mine used to work at a bank back in the day. She says one day a guy in professional attire and a clipboard shows up in a big moving truck. He says he’s from the home office and they’re changing all the chairs. He’s needs them to just load all their old chairs into his truck and later he’d be back with the replacements.
And that’s how they gave away their office furniture to a conman whose master plan was “Wear a tie and carry a clipboard.”
Looking professional is just a pass to do whatever the hell you want.
Put a suit on and you can get almost anywhere.
there’s more to it, look nice and ACT LIKE YOU BELONG. If you don’t look like you belong there, people will stop you.
this smacks of a chef i heard of that was tired to death that every single person ordered their eggs ‘over easy’, so asked the waitress to say ‘were out of over easy, we have plenty of scrambled’ and nobody questioned it
How low must your self image be to plan to rob a bank and all you take is some second hand chairs?
I 100% believe this was a former employee with a grudge.
Kid you not, this is how a sister store of mine got their entire dog treat bar stolen.
A couple of guys said they were with maintenance and they were there to replace the old bar with a new one and the employees were like “Seems legit” and they wheeled them out. The staff even helped them do it.
This is called a “Bavarian Fire Drill” and the trick to pulling it off is to have absolute confidence that it’s going to work. If you seem even the slightest bit nervous or hesitant, everyone will see right through it.
Case in point:
In 1906, a German con man named Wilhelm Voigt dressed up in a German Army captain’s uniform and entered the town of Köpenick claiming to be an “inspector” (inspector of what, he never specified). He managed to wrangle ten German soldiers and a sergeant into assisting him, ordered the local police to halt all telephone calls to Berlin for an hour, arrested the mayor and treasurer for nonexistent charges of crooked bookkeeping, and confiscated the town’s entire treasury complete with a receipt which he signed with his former jail director’s name. He only got caught (two weeks later) because his former cellmate blabbed, and was later pardoned by Kaiser Wilhelm II who found the whole thing hilarious.
That Kaiser is a definite bro.
This is why slytherins like to be fancy and professional looking
it just got better
Yen… You’re NOT a hypocrite. You’ve always remained consistent on this issue. And Imma b real honest. The fake “wokeness” is real. NONE of us know what is really going on. Cultural differences and language barriers are just a few things that come into play. If they expect you to get in ur feelings at every they find offensive. Let the sheep sleep in they fake “wokeness”. How about we get annoyed at what a 17 yr boy in sk said and tackle real racism at home. Gtfoh with that judgemental shite🙄
whenever i try and get a goodnight’s sleep, RM’s hair from No More Dream era and then truly , for me, there is no more dream
the…toothbrush hair….gosh
Being a minority in a small country town in the southern u.s. I get plenty of questions and hear questionable things from poc and non poc alike. My policy is if once a person is educated on why the thing they said is messed up and they make every effort to change. We don’t harp on it. My own mother is white passing and only recently acknowledged colorism in herself. She’s changing how she thinks. Let’s accept idols are human. Also malicious intent is v different from unknown ignorance.

I’m just going to say one more thing about everything happening with Jimin at the moment since there are people still spreading the premise that he said a racial slur with that meaning. I don’t understand why people suddenly don’t comprehend that words CAN have multiple meanings depending on the context you say them in. People going around citing “sources” saying its a racial slur are also completely ignoring or omitting the sources that say it depends how it’s used. There are words like this in every language yet you all want to make a big deal and bash someone’s name for not having common sense?
For example: B*tch is a VERY versatile word in the English language. It can mean SO many things and not always taken negatively. B*tch by definition is a female dog. It’s also used to describe an unpleasant situation or when complaining. However people tend to use it as a slang/curse word. People say it in passing or as part of their daily convos has if it’s nothing. Yet If you direct that word at a person in a malicious way it completely changes the meaning. Hell the meaning even changes again when you direct it at a female compared to a male. If you direct that word at a female, it’s usually cause you think she’s being cruel, insensitive, inconsiderate, rude, etc. However if you direct it at a male, it becomes derogatory because you’re basically calling him a p*ssy (also not a word meant to be negative), not manly, a subordinate. This is just ONE example of words taking on different meanings depending on how and when it’s said. There are things like this in every language (don’t even get me started on spanish).
I suggest those spreading this even further do the PROPER research and consider all the possible ways the word he said could have been used before jumping down his throat. If you want to read some threads explaining the meanings of the word he used do so here and here. Always remember that every Korean speaker/native has their own way of translating things and can also put their own bias into the matter. That’s why it’s good to find multiple sources. Believing he wasn’t being racist has nothing to do with being biased or “making excuses for him”. We’re not completely ignoring the fact that this word can be used in a derogatory manner, we’re defending the fact that this word was not used by him in that way. smh.
ya jimin using tht racist slur was 4 years ago but he said other shitty stuff in the years after nd just bc it’s a long time ago doesn’t mean tht black kpop fans can’t be hurt by his words and defending jimin over this isn’t helping anyone!! saying shit like “oh he couldnt be racist, he was friends with tony” just makes u look like an ignorant asshole urself w no sense of what is racism!
I love the idea of connecting Tae to the new kind of flower since the “flower blogger” also said he accidently went to a playing cards fair or smth in his last post and that makes me think about Taehyung destroying Jins house of cards in the Run mv (and we know Run mv also showed the Smeraldo flower for the first time)
!!! yea !!
although why must they be so extra with this extra account.. why.. just… give us answers
