So, when I was doing my thesis on whether or not fanfiction should be considered a legitimate genre of literature, my advising professor asked me for examples.  I gave him the generic ones, of course – “Pride & Prejudice and Zombies” is a horror fanfic of “Pride & Prejudice”, “50 Shades of Grey” is an erotica fic of “Twilight" – and that seemed to make him understand what fanfiction is, but not how it’s useful.  So I thought about it, and, after about a minute, I said, “Paradise Lost is basically a fanfiction of the Book of Genesis.  And The Divine Comedy is an epic self-insertion fic for Catholic doctrine.  So, basically, you were teaching us fanfiction last semester.”  I had never before seen a grown man’s eyes widen with such fear, incomprehension, disgust, awe, and understanding.

#does that mean the renaissance was almost entirely fan art?

Yes. Yes it does. All ur classic favs had the Renaissance version of DeviantArt.

I know I’m That Guy™ , but it is possible to advocate for social reform without sweeping under the rug the very real tragedies and human rights violations that have existed under communist regimes

I get that this doesn’t fit your edgelord communist aesthetic but it costs $0 to reblog this and let your followers know you aren’t advocating to repeat the mistakes of the past

I love how the search function on this site is absolute garbage. I can look up a post word for word and I will NEVER find it

Pro tip:

Wanna find a post?

Write out what you remember into a Google search.

After you write that out, end with site:tumblr.com

Google will search for your text on just tumblr

In my experience, it’s way more effective than searching through Tumblr

(you can use site:SITENAME.com to search any site btws)

This usually works but for some reason a lot of posts get indexed on google from a person’s URL based on the posts that were recently reblogged on page 1, meaning that this is only a tiny bit more reliable.

I HAVE a solution to this, you have to write down site:tumblr.com/post “ “

and then write a direct quote (could be a fraction of a sentence) into the quotations, I’ve been doing this for years, and it’s so useful, it works like 99% of the time

(the more popular a post is the more likely you’ll find it)

you’re a genius holy shit

Finally, thank you

The internal struggle for the control of the television text is clear in the case of The 100. In this regard, fans participating in the ‘LGBT Fans Deserve Better’ campaign used social media to denounce the distorted and harmful representation of lesbians and bisexuals. Fueled by their newly developed fan-tagonism or anti-fandom, the actions and initiatives of the fan activists were not only directed towards the producers of the series and towards the actors in the industry, but also to other fans, specifically toxic fans, within their own community. The comments analysed reveal a constant negotiation for the ultimate goal of the campaign and the means to achieve it at a time when the hostilities towards the producers by toxic fans threatened to damage the ethos of fan activists and the whole campaign. Therefore, the self-regulation strategies deployed by fan activists on ‘The L Chat’ illustrate the tensions that are intrinsic to most, if not all, fan cultures.

Guerrero-Pico, Mar, María-José Establés & Rafa Ventura (2018). ‘Killing off Lexa: “Dead Lesbian Syndrome” & intra-fandom management of toxic fan practices in an online queer community’, Participations 15 (1).

You might remember us posting a paper last year about how the idea of queerbaiting has evolved over time, using the example of the Clarke/Lexa relationship from The 100.

Guerrero-Pico and her colleagues look at a similar case study of fan reactions to Lexa’s death in the show, but rather than just looking at fan-producer interactions, this paper looks at the diversity of reactions within fandom, and how different factions within the Clexa fandom negotiated with each other and managed each other’s behaviour, especially towards the show’s producers.

The paper is part of a special issue on toxic fan practices of the journal Participations, which is a fully open-access journal.

A problem of humanity

TW: Death, Bullying, cursing(?)

How disgusting can a human be that a death of someone makes them happy and satisfied AND wishes death upon the remaining ARMYs? How disgusting is this?! Someone just died meaning that precious someone who means a lot to the family and friends just got taken away which also means they can no longer smile no longer live no longer be here and YOU think you have the right to be satisfied by it? YOU think you have the right to celebrate and be happy about it?? How sad of a life.

This is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen! People attack ARMYs just because they like BTS, just because their fave is different from yours doesn’t mean that you have the right to bully them. AGAIN Who gives you the right?? To bully, to make someone else suffer, to make them insecure and it can go to such levels that the person might not even want to exist anymore? Yet you get the pleasure out of their misery? WHY? ARMYs are as much of a human as everyone else, EVERY fanbase every fandom always jumps to defend whoever it is but when it comes to ARMYs everyone is quiet.

You might not like the fact that BTS are succeeding, that they no matter what anyone else says continue to work hard and be better but that doesn’t mean that they themselves doesn’t have a hard time. It definitely doesn’t mean that just because we have a big fandom and we’re supportive of our BTS we don’t deserve the respect. Don’t respect us as ARMYs if it itches you so much but at the very least have some shame, dignity and respect us as mere normal human beings just like you and everyone else. Fandom aside this is a matter of humanity.

We don’t need anyone else to defend our fandom or anything just leave ARMYs alone!

“Just because they’re idol fans they get belittled, but they’re really incredible people. Honestly, it’s not something that should happen just because they like someone.” -Min Yoongi
