ok. to be honest, while i’m so incredibly happy and overwhelmed about seokjin finally getting his time to shine as a soloist, the fact that his M/V looked the cheapest out of all the intro songs shouldn’t be overlooked either….like the camera quality and colors were done well and so were the sound effects, but his sets and concepts were so lackluster compared to all the other videos of vocal line. the costumes he wore weren’t even tailored properly. he only had one (1) location change, and the rain set was just water and a black background.
i know bts is busy and i’m not hating on all the other M/Vs but it’s just. it’s just that when jin finally gets his moment, he somehow STILL gets the short end of the stick. singularity’s sets were so intricate: the roses, the lighting, the water. tae’s styling was so detailed and incredibly flattering … serendipity got all that cg, all those different rooms & concepts?? the transitions?? and euphoria was a WHOLE handful w the hyyh parallels, but jin gets one (1) room and a rain scene that isn’t as flattering as it could be im just gonna say it………………. i hate that im disappointed and i try not to Be becoz im so happy he has this opportunity now but there’s no way i can overlook this shit again, like. dam
The love yourself intros were really well thought out and really tell a nice story about going from a love that seemed perfect and destined to be (serendipity) and using that relationship to cause a false or temporary sense of happiness, almost like a distraction from bad things (euphoria) and then being able to realize these false feelings came from molding oneself to fit the other person’s preference so much that the relationship was seen as being based on fake emotions and hiding their real self to satisfy their partner (singularity) which ultimately led to self reflection and the realization that self love is the best love and that once you have it you can achieve the happiness you seek (ephiphany) and i think the lyrics of each intro really does a wonderful job executing this story line.
Since Love Yourself era is coming to a close with LY: Answer, I would like to explain a little bit why the entire HYYH/LY concept that BTS have been sticking to for the last couple of years means so much to me.
They could have easily
focused on singing about superficial love interests, romance, breakups like
every other artist and still be successful. But no, they chose to represent something that is so profound and runs very
deeply in the lives of many people who are of similar ages – 16-27.
Starting with HYYH, that concept was what made me
fall in love with BTS because they
captured the image of a nostalgic youth so perfectly. It is the kind of
nostalgia that is bittersweet because you have to be past that age of youth to
be able to look back on it so wistfully to a
time that we can never return to again.
It’s lovely to see someone who just gets it, like totally gets what they were going for. This is beautifully written and I think the impact they’ve had on you is the EXACT thing they were striving for when creating the Love Yourself series. I’m glad you had your own Epiphany.
Though I don’t think the HYYH years necessarily end as you get older. ‘
Where there is hope, there is always hardship’. That’s the truth of being young forever. We’re all just trying to survive and find happiness. What is true is that no matter who you are or how old you are, you can come out the other side of whatever battle you are fighting. You can.
